nbc 10 news starts now. a high school football}player is in critical condition after being hit by a car and the driver took off. chaos erupted at a concert in new jersey. police? riot gear were called in. we'll tell you what got the crowd so restless. plus, we're tracking some storms in the nbc 10 first alert forecast. when the rain arrives and how much we're expected to get. that's coming up 4:30 monday morning. this is nbc 10 news today. i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm chris cato.

you made it to another monday. that annoying weekend is over with. we can all get back to reality. let's talk about the reality of the weather. meteorologist brittney shipp is in with her first alert forecast. >> it really wasn't a bad end to the weekend. it was fantastic. as we head into today, changes warm into the mid-80s. we track a chance of showers and storms. right now, temperatures in philadelphia at 65 degrees, just a few clouds wind speeds out of the south at 7 miles per hour. we'll continue to see more moisture coming up from the south. right now temperatures throughout the rest of the region at 59 in wrightstown 63 in wilmington 63 in chester springs, low 60s in nordstrom, 60 degrees in oxford. along the short, 61. beach haven 61 degrees. we have a few scattered showers outside of harrisburg right now. these will mainly stay to the north of our area will push into the poconos and then we'll watch part of this system will

head to the east throughout today and so we will see a chance of showers and thunderstorms pushing into the afternoon. so we'll go ahead and progress the model for you. it shows by 3:00 4:00 that's the window we'll start to see these storms moving in. 74 degrees by 4:00 p.m. in the poconos with a chance of heavy downpours, same thing in allentown. i'll show you how long our threat of storms and showers will stick around coming up in my full craft in ten minutes. we'll check in with first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington. >> we are going to start things off in new jersey with a live shot of 295 right around the black horse pike. not a lot of volume in a lot of direction. an inactive work zone over here as well. southbound to 38 to this point, currently no problems. as we take a look at the rest of the drive times through the philadelphia area currently no problems as you're heading into center city on 95 or the schuylkill expressway.

the blue route, just a 15-minute trip there. the p.a. turnpike looking okay. in the clear, no problems. you can see the cars are moving along. 22 minutes if you're headed westbound or eastbound from route 1 up towards valley forth. . 4:33. we have new information now on that hit and run case in salem county that has left a high school football player in critical condition. >> his classmates are planning a tribute for him today. nbc 10's katy zachry is live in pennsville. bring us up to date. >> reporter: later this morning students and the community at pennsville community high school will wear blue one of the school's colors to support and rally around their classmate and friend, kyle pszenny. his parents stepped away from his bedside last night to talk with us and give us an update. they said he's still in critical condition, 17 years old, a star football player at the high school. was hit by a car early sunday

morning riding his skateboard home. the driver of the hyundai elantra did not stop after impact. witnesses say that impact threw kyle several hundred yards down the street. he's a star football player here at pennsville memorial high school. he's known throughout the community. he underwent hours of surgery last night. local police tell us they do have some leads but they really need the public in inwith information, to step up and offer that information. any eyeweiss aitness accounts. coming up you'll hear from a witness about the crash. reporting live in pennsville katy zachry, nbc 10 news. theage athletic department released this statement, saying please keep kyle and his family in your thoughts during this very critical time. the family understands and appreciates everyone's concern for kyle and is extremely thankful there's been such an outpouring of support. loved ones and friends are grieving for this philadelphia teenager. police and witnesses say a car that ran a stop sign hit and

killed him. this morning, the alleged driver is under arrest suspected of being drunk behind the wheel. 17-year-old adelso matos took off from hunting park on his bike last night. he only made it to 7th and cayuga. friends of the witnesses tell us what they saw and heard. >> the guy went through the stop sign and hit him. >> he needed cpr. so everybody move, do my job, try to do the best i could. i just couldn't keep up with him. >> police arrested the man on suspicion of dui. we'll update you when we find out if and when charges will be filed. 4:35 now. the trial continues today for one of five people who police say committed crimes against five children at a home in darby. darryl carter faces several charges from endangering the welfare of children to involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.

carter and four other adults shot those children with bb guns and forced them to watch at dulls have sex. all four children were under the age of 12. a philadelphia man accused of leaving his son in a car while he played black jack will get under way. he was at the parks casino in bensalem. he made no attempt to go back to his car and check on his son. police rescued the boy after someone heard the boy crying and called 911. the sentencing phase of a bucks county man convicted of murdering a pregnant woman and her young daughter. marcel johnson was convicted of stabbing kallie and the little girl and set the bristol township apartment on fire in 2013. kallie was five months pregnant at the time. the red cross is helping the victims of a house fire in pennsauken camden county. viewer tweeted this picture

yesterday. workers are providing food clothing and temporary lodging for three adults and a toddler forced out of their home because of that fire. still not clear how it started. this morning we've learned a girl who fell out of an apartment window in allentown has been upgraded from critical to stable. tiann arnett and her sister fell from that window. the window screen was defective and loose. authorities do not expect to file charges. happening today, some low-wage workers at philly international airport plan to protest at city hall. dozens of baggage handlers wheelchair attendants and airplane cleaners plan to hold a sit-in later this morning. the nonunion workers say they are living in poverty because airlines are outsourcing their jobs to low bid subcontractors. philadelphia voters approved a living wage ballot question. the workers say many of them are still making just $7.25 an hour. summer jam turns to summer slam.

police arrested several people who they say were illegally trying to get into the summer jam concert at metlife stadium in east rutherford. witnesses say they were denied entry although they had tickets. apple is making an announcement today.

conditions with temperatures pushing above average into the mid-80s, our average for this time of year is the low 80s. humidity at 70%, wind speeds out of the south at 7 miles per hour. right now, temperatures throughout the rest of the region 63 degrees in horsham, 60 degrees in chester springs, low 60s in wilmington. 68 in mt. pocono 60 in coatesville and oxford. right along the shore we're at 61 in beach haven, low 60s in avalon. temperatures in dover at 62. i am tracking a few scattered showers that are just outside of our area here. they're tracking to the east. parts of the poconos will see the showers moving in. closer to about 5:19. within the next 30 to 40 minutes or so. this batch of moisture is mainly going to stay to the north of our area with the exception of the poconos. we have unsettled weather that's way back off near cincinnati and just to the east of st. louis. we will maintain a chance of severe storms closer to allentown and into the poconos, heading into the afternoon.

then a chance of storms for the rest of the region and, again, this will affect your evening commute. this will not affect your morning commute. we'll stay dry throughout the morning hours. here's our time stamp, closer to 3:00, 4:00. we see moderate to heavy downpours, stretching down into allentown. as we progress the motto closer to 6:00 p.m. more pop-up showers move into the northern parts of delaware. by 7:00 p.m. it will affect philadelphia. by 9:00 p.m. into south jersey millville, into the central parts of delaware like dover. once again, still dealing with the heavy downpours in the poconos, allentown, stretching out to reading and lancaster county. by 11:00 p.m. it's south jersey. that's dealing with the severe potentially thunderstorms. overnight hours, still dealing with heavy downpours. temperatures will push into the mid-80s. i am tracking warmer temperatures into the 90s. i'll let you know when coming up in my seven-day forecast in about ten minutes.

>> sounds good. 4:43. let's check the roads and see how things are shaping up for ayour morning drive. >> jessica boyington, what are you seeing? >> we're fee and clear so far. not a lot of volume. on the schuylkill expressway around montgomery drive, everything moving along just fine. eastbound lanes there, westbound doing okay as well. 13 minutes or a little bit under if you're headed into either direction. into the center city area you get 13 minutes up towards the vine street expressway. on 422, eastbound, westbound, currently no problems. eight minutes if you're headed up towards the schuylkill expressway on the eastbound side from 29. mass transit, a great alternate, currently no delays. i'll check in with new jersey coming up. officials are calling it a shawshank style prison break. the manhunt intensifies for the two escaped killers in upstate new york.

a thousand motorcyclists converged on waco texas yesterday outside the jail to support bikers who remain jailed after a deadly brawl and shootout last month. those bikers claim some of the bikers being jailed were only arrested because they were there, in the wrong place at wrong time. nine people were killed more than a dozen injured. on your face! >> this video is now viral. the texas police officer seen here is on administrative leave while authorities investigate his response to a disturbance at a pool party. the officer is shown throwing a 14-year-old girl foot ground pinning her down with his knees. the mckinney police department released a statement on its

facebook page saying it is investigating the incident which, quote, raised concerns. two killers who broke out of a maximum security prison in new york on saturday are still on the run this morning. >> investigators say those men broke out through steel and they planned their escape for some time. they may have had some help from the inside, too. new york state police are now officering a $100,000 reward for the wheres about of richard matt and david sweat. investigators say they used power tools to cut their way out of a maximum security prison on saturday and use handmade dummies to trick guards into thinking they were still in bed. >> a lot of territory to cover. we're looking at each of them and their associates independently. >> authorities are currently in the process of trying to figure out how much help those con vicks had in planning and executing the escape. because of the amount of time that's passed since the escape those two could literally be anywhere authorities say. the man charged in the death of a university of virginia

student goes on trial in a rape case. investigators say they link jessie matthew jr. to the 2005 sexual assault after tracking him for the disappearance and murder of hannah graham last year. matthew pleaded not guilty to rain and attempted murder charges. 4:49. 64 degrees. in the investigation of former house speaker dennis hastert, more members are speaking out about allegations of sexual abuse. hastert is expected to make his first court appearance this week on charges that he violated banking rules and lied to the fbi. many want to know who individual "a" is the person in the federal indictment that alleges that hastert agreed to pay $3.5 million to hide past misconduct. a friend of a wrestler that hastert once coached said that the student in question confided in him 40 years ago, 40 years ago, that he had had sexual encounters with hastert years earlier. hastert has not commented on those allegations. all is quiet when it comes

to new jersey governor chris christie's nominating officials. five years after he complained about the delaware river port authority, all eight members of the board are still on the job. the governor also has not tapped anyone for state attorney general, nor a seat on the state supreme court. his office says it takes time to make those nominations. ten minutes before 5:00 right now. it is day two of the g7 summit as president obama and fellow leaders weigh additional sanctions against their former g8 ally vladimir putin also planned a session on the fight against isis which has proved a resilient enemy and wealthy one. national correspondent edward lawrence reports from washington. >> reporter: president obama used a little german in his opening address to world leaders at the g7 summit in a remote bavarian castle he hopes to solidify the world's message to russia and tell its leader

vladimir putin to recognize the sovereignty of ukraine. >> the fact that we're all here together, it's proof that con flicks can end and great progress is possible. >> reporter: he hopes to extend economic sanctions against russia and walk away with stronger trade deals between the g7 countries. putin was kicked out of the summit last year when russia annexed of the ukraine. putin maintains he was responding to threats in the region. >> if you can't trust mr. putten to go back home the day after and actually do what he's promised, then having him at the table won't get you very far at all. >> reporter: the summit also allowed world leaders to talk about isis great britain announced on sunday they're sending more military training personnel to iraq to help iraqi troops with the threat. in washington edward lawrence, nbc news. 4:51 now. we have new information on an oil spill in southern california. crews say nearly half of the oil splashed on to etch boos near los angeles is now cleaned up

that's after a leaky pipeline caused the spill. crews are still cleaning nearly 100 miles of coastline. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. with meteorologist brittney shipp. good monday morning to you. temperatures today warming above average. the first thing we're dealing with as we're tracking storms as we head into your afternoon and evening hours, we could see the possibility of severe storms for certain neighborhoods. i'll show you exactly where. hot and humid conditions especially by thursday and friday where we are going to track temperatures heading back to the 90s. or to the 90s for the first time. a look outside right now. we are seeing few clouds, 65 degrees, humidity at 70%. wind speeds out of the south at 7 miles per hour. across the rest of the region, 58. the poconos, 68. 65 in reading, 63 in wilmington 62 in dover. we're in the 60s along the shore. we have warmer air coming up from the south. that's going to help fuel some of these thunderstorms that we

should see as we head into the afternoon. take a look at the temperature difference. we're up 17 degrees in the poconos, up 14 degrees in allentown. 12 degrees in pottstown, 9 in northeast philly. up 10 degrees in atlantic city. we're checking out a few scattered showers, mainly to the north of our area and also to the west of our area. we'll mainly see these passing through the poconos staying well to the north of the viewing area parts the poconos over the next 20 minutes or so should start to see a few of the showers moving in. unsettled weather vopding us. we'll see part of that moisture moving eastward and we continue to see more moisture coming up from the south. warmer temperatures heading into the afternoon. that will lead us to a chance of severe storms. all the areas highlighted in yellow have a chance to see severe storms and what severe storms means is the possibility for wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. some of the thunderstorms could produce hail. for all the areas highlighted in green here that's a chance of thunderstorms. either way, the timing is going to be as you're trying to head

home from work or making your plans tonight, you just want to be careful. here's a closer look at the area in yellow with a chance of severe storms. allentown, the poconos, stretching out to lancaster county all under that slight risk for severe storms. future cast shows us as we head into the rest of the afternoon by 3:00 4:00 we start to deal with a chance for these downpours. once these get going, it looks like this area will continue to see the heaviest precipitation coming down rainfall and chance of thunderstorm activity. as we progress the model closer to 7:00 8:00 for philadelphia, wilmington, all included with that chance of thunderstorm activity, itten would the be until 9:00 south jersey and along the shore will start to see more activity. it's going to continue into your overnight hours and we'll still maintain a chance of showers as we head into tomorrow with warm temperatures expected. mid-80s today for philadelphia. a bit cooler for the poconos and right along the shore. well above average. your seven-day forecast shows as
